New Zealand’s Winterless North . . . A Year-Round Motorcycle Adventure

If you think the South Pacific shuts down for winter, think again. In the far north of New Zealand lies a region that Kiwis call the Winterless North: a place where mild subtropical weather, dramatic coastlines, and history combine. Making it one memorable motorcycling destination!

The northern regions of Northland and the stunning Bay of Islands offer year-round riding conditions. Even in the cooler months, the climate gentle and the temps more forgiving than down South. But the weather is only part of the appeal. This region blends scenic beauty with some of the most significant cultural landmarks in the country.

A ride through the Bay of Islands leads to the historic seaside town of Paihia, the gateway to the Waitangi Treaty Ground, where the nation’s founding document was signed. Just across the water sits Russell, New Zealand’s first European settlement. Despite its checkered past (it was once labelled the Hell Hole of the Pacific due to the early lawlessness) today it's a charming coastal township known for its relaxed atmosphere, historical artifacts, excellent dining spots, and breathtaking harbour views.

For Moto Guzzi riders the real magic begins when the road turns coastal.

One of the must-ride routes in the upper north is the legendary Secret Coast Road. Starting near Whakapara, the road winds through a series of spectacular coastal locations including Helena Bay, Taupiri Bay and Jack's Bay. This lesser-known stretch of highway is a dream for riders: sweeping corners and flowing turns that reveal textbook perfect scenery around every bend.

Expect a constantly changing landscape as you ride. Rolling farmland gives way to dense native bush, which opens suddenly to hidden coves and sandy beaches. Rugged rock pools, quiet fishing nooks, and dramatic ocean views make every stop worth the break. Afterall, it's about the journey as much as the destination.

Whether you visit in winter, summer, or any season in between, the region delivers on roads and landscapes you'll never forget

If you’re ready to experience the Winterless North from the saddle, reach out and let's make it happen.
