They say good things come in small packages – and New Zealand is no exception to the rule, especially when it comes to motorbike riding. And with a fresh ‘Third Safest Country in the World’ 2025 ranking, according to the Institute for Economics and Peace’s Global Peace Index, there’s never been a better time to lock in that motorbike trip Down Under.
Safety ranking aside, why does heading to the bottom of the world to explore and holiday appeal to so many?
Time is on your side . . .
Hankering for some easy coastal cruising, want to gaze upon mountain ranges or feast on cultural delights – you can have it all, in no time flat! We boast 15,000 kilometres of coastline, and 30% of our country is covered in national reserves, and we’re relatively long and narrow – not wide. Our widest point is 450 km or 280 miles from the West Coast region of New Plymouth’s to the East Coast town of Napier. Our narrowest point is 1 km or 0.6 miles from East to West Coast is in Otahuhu, Auckland. Basically, this means no matter where you ride in New Zealand you’re never more than 225 kilometres from the coast!
So, you can literally cruise from beach, to town, to mountain within just a few hours. For example, have breakfast seaside at Mount Maunganui, immerse yourself in bubbly hot pools and geothermal highlights in Rotorua, then cruise through our National Park to wine country, Martinborough – all achievable in a day and destined to ignite the senses and tastebuds!
Golf, fishing, thrill seeking – it’s all here . . .
Whether you’re keen to swing a club or throw out a line, New Zealand offers a bounty of land-based and seafaring to-dos countrywide.

Our fishing regions are plentiful: In the North Island, head to the Coromandel’s Whitianga and lock in a fishing charter to hook up a snapper or kingfish, head to Lake Taupo on the Central Plateau for spot of trout fishing. If you’re headed to the South Island, salmon fishing on the banks of Canterbury’s Rakaia River never goes amiss, stop by for whitebaiting on the West Coast and catch the ferry to Stewart Island for our famous blue cod.

New Zealand sports over 400 golf courses – making us one of the few countries in the world with the most golf courses per capita. Our famed golf courses span the country, from Kauri Cliffs, to the North Course at Te Arai Links, to one of Oceania’s most photographed courses at Cape Kidnappers. You can even participate in the ‘Over the Top’ golf experience in Queenstown, flying via helicopter to tee off in the Southern Alps – 4,500 feet above sea level!
Did you know that New Zealand was also ranked the top adventure destination in the world this year, beating 69 other countries in a Rustic Pathways survey.
Our environmental diversity means we deliver adventure tourism like no other. From famous walks, to bungy jumping, skydiving and rafting – no thrill seeker goes bored in the Land of the Long White Cloud!
Tired of hearing about stuff to do? Don’t worry a Kiwi holiday is just as enjoyable and memorable if you plan to simply kick back, eat, drink and relax (no adventuring insight!) We’re a laid back bunch so we’d be happy to join you!Happy riding!
